The Painted Turtle Camp

For any child who has ever felt alone because of a chronic or life-threatening illness, The Painted Turtle Camp in Northern Los Angeles County offers a place where he or she can laugh and play, climb and swim, and just be a kid among other kids for a week. More often than not, the effect of that week is a whole year's worth of positive self-esteem, and what will likely become a lifetime filled with special friends, self-confidence and self-respect.

Grants Help Agencies

The Weingart Foundation often supports nonprofit agencies that concentrate their efforts on producing improved results for an identified community or neighborhood. The agencies featured in this article are focused on improving the lives of children, families, and adults in a specific disadvantaged neighborhood. Among many things in common, they use a holistic approach in the development of programs and services, collaborate with neighborhood partners, and make good use of community assets.

Small Grants Make a Big Impact

With a handful of small twigs, a bird will build a substantial nest. Similarly, even small grants from the Weingart Foundation help build substantial programs for the benefit of individuals, families and neighborhoods. Many times, grants that range from less than $10,000 up to $30,000 are the first grant for which an organization applies. In addition to helping people in need, small grants help organizations learn about the process with a simpler form and fewer supporting documents.
