Announcing the John W. Mack Movement Building Fellows

John W. Mack

The Weingart Foundation is pleased to announce our first group of John W. Mack Movement Building Fellows. These twelve outstanding individuals were selected to participate in the Foundation’s efforts to strengthen and empower the next generation of social justice and racial equity leaders in Los Angeles County. Fellows will receive leadership training, coaching, and peer learning over the next 18 months. The John W. Mack Movement Fellows program, named after the late civic leader who dedicated his life to social justice and activism, reflects our commitment to support the region’s social movement infrastructure by creating a robust network of leaders. Message from Fred Ali, President & CEO
A Heartfelt Farewell to our Senior Vice President, Belen Vargas

Belen crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge with veteran activist Roscoe Jones, Sr. on a recent Board and staff civil rights retreat.

It is with deep gratitude for her many years of service and well-wishes for the future that I announce the departure of our senior vice president, Belen Vargas. Belen will leave the Weingart Foundation in late September to join California State University, Los Angeles as associate vice president for operations and chief mission officer. While the Board and staff of the Foundation will miss her greatly, we know that Belen will be an incredible asset to the community in her new role. To read Fred’s full message, click here.
